This 1978 GMC van was transformed in to a full size version of the famous Hot Wheels Super Van. When our client came to us he even brought along the original Hot Wheel he had as a kid. We straightened the entire body and painted it gloss black with custom flames inspired by the original Super Van tampo. The dash was painted flat black. We lowered the van over 5 inches and had to modify the front wheel houses and about 1 inch to the rear wheel houses to accommodate the new 18″ and 20″ Red line Wheels and tires. We also made a custom notch in the floor from a motor cycle tank to avoid hitting the rear axle. This is one of our most popular builds, it gets a lot of attention everywhere it goes. We complete a lot of restorations, but it’s especially fun to have a project like this, where we are able to get creative and bring a childhood toy to life.
New in the 1975 Flying Colors line-up the Super Van . This was a great rolling billboard for Hot Wheels. First issued with two different tampo’s on each side. With and with out side markers was only in there first part of the Super vans life, all later years have side markers. Although the Glass color changed it’s whole life.
